The Archive

The Archive, as constituted at present, includes digital facsimile images. Current text images have generously been provided by The Library Company of Philadelphia and the University of Virginia Library. Future images, whether made from microfilm or print copies, will be reproduced and saved as color JPEG images. The purpose of the archive is to present Brown’s texts, and texts thought to be Brown’s, and to preserve a sense of the intellectual and print culture of which he was a part. As the project progresses, a portion of periodical and other texts from the bibliography, keyboarded from original mss. or facsimile reproductions, will be placed here and will be fully searchable. These texts will be the foundation of the scholarly edition and fully edited volumes that meet MLA CSE guidelines. In addition, we plan to make available select materials from contributors to Brown’s three magazine publications, from friends and correspondents, and from contemporaries such as Benjamin Rush, Judith Sargent Murray, Thomas Jefferson, Hannah Adams, Joseph Dennie, and William Duane. |
